With the grand news of being pregnant, as the mother to the child and as the child to the mother both you and the baby begins to face changes.

It is the first trimester most mothers get anxious about what to do and what not to do to be healthy.

What is the first trimester? 

Among the official three main trimesters, the first 12 week of the pregnancy is known to be the first trimester. It is from the last day the you had your period to 12 weeks. 

How your body changes

Morning sickness could be pretty common for you if you are in your first 12 weeks of the pregnancy. The main feature of this situation is nausea could occur at anytime even though it is known as ‘morning sickness’. 

( it is a must to know that pregnancy is different from one to another and from person to person.)So, You may or may not have morning sickness. 

Most of the pregnant ladies highlights the urge to urinate much often by the time. This is as a result of your enlarging uterus and its pressure that is put to the bladder. Meanwhile you will feel a more tender breasts situation. By time the breasts and its shape could get heavy and large. This is a pretty common thing in the first trimester which you need not to worry. 

You might or might not get cravings for food or might possibly loose the appetite for food too. 

 

What happens to your emotions

In the first 12 weeks of time, your hormones start to change due to the pregnancy. 

Tiredness and moods swings are quite common in this period. But remember there is always someone out there to help you when you are in need. Your doctor, midwife, your partner or either your close friend will obviously help you to get through the emotional roller coaster. 

The baby in the 1st trimester

By 12 weeks of time your baby becomes around 6cm foetus. The first trimester ends with a heart beat of the baby where he/she starts to develop the brain, intestines. It is the first trimester’s end where your baby starts to show signs of growing little legs and arms. 

The doctor and the Midwife

At the very first stage you will be checked up by a urine test or a blood test just to confirm the pregnancy. 

Your health will be reviewed thoroughly considering that you are a pregnant lady. 

Since that you will need to be checked up and taken care of by a obstetrician or by a midwife or a doctor. 

You will need to get checked up in every four(4) to six(6) weeks. 

The importance of being checked up by a professional is that you get to know what is needed for you. 

At the end of the first trimester, which means at the end of the 12 weeks you will be offered with an ultrasound scan. You will see how many babies your are going to have and how the heart of the baby/babies beats. The best part is by 12 weeks you will have a due date that is estimated. 

Help for health is important in first trimester because it makes things easier and comfortable for you and the baby. 

 

Want to stay healthy?

–  Quite smoking. 

–  Quite Drinking alcohol. 

– Eat foods with nutrition to help you and the baby/babies. 

– consult your health officer and know about your medications in need such as folic acid, iodine intake. 

– Always stay connected with your doctor or the midwife incharge. 

 

Important things to consider when in the first trimester. 

Give much attention about your health about the baby’s with the help of the doctor or the midwife. 

You will need help and don’t hesitate to ask for help when in need. No matter whether it is for the ordinary check-ups or for the feeling of being vulnerable. 

Be on alert about your vaccinations. Immunity is indeed the key to stay healthy.
